The compound can also be used to produce menthofuran (found in peppermint plants) and the sweetener hernandulcin (mainly found in Lippia dulcis). Additionally, isopulegol serves as a chemical precursor for menthol and is obtained by freezing peppermint oil, a process employed commercially to enhance natural sources of menthol, which contributes to its cooling and minty properties.
